Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Nurse Manager II – Operating Room (OR) to lead perioperative nursing operations in a high-acuity hospital environment. This role is responsible for overseeing clinical care delivery, staffing, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and operational performance within the Operating Room and procedure suite.
The Nurse Manager II will ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care while collaborating with physicians, surgical teams, and hospital leadership to optimize patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop OR nursing staff and support teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Manage hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations.
- Support succession planning and workforce development initiatives.
Clinical Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations of the Operating Room and related procedural areas.
- Ensure appropriate staffing, resource allocation, and equipment readiness.
- Maintain clinical expertise and provide guidance on perioperative nursing standards.
- Delegate tasks aligned with scope of practice and clinical competency.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), Nursing Practice Act, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive patient safety initiatives and quality improvement programs.
- Monitor adherence to infection control, surgical safety, and perioperative best practices.
- Support audit readiness and continuous survey preparedness.
Strategic & Administrative Leadership
- Translate organizational goals into operational action plans for assigned unit(s).
- Manage budgets, payroll, and resource utilization.
- Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement process improvements.
- Participate in hospital-wide operational and strategic initiatives.
Collaboration & Patient Care Coordination
- Collaborate with physicians, surgical teams, and interdisciplinary departments.
- Resolve patient, family, and staff concerns related to care delivery.
- Support emergency preparedness and operational continuity planning.
- Ensure coordination across departments for safe and timely surgical care.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in patient care delivery.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in business operations, clinical healthcare, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of leadership experience (with or without direct reports).
- Active Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license at time of hire.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership experience in Operating Room, perioperative services, or surgical nursing.
- Strong understanding of perioperative standards, patient safety, and surgical workflows.
- Experience in staffing, budgeting, and hospital operations management.
- Strong background in regulatory compliance and quality improvement.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and team leadership skills.
