Duties
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy to patients, employees, and the community in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Baptist Health. This position ensures patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory compliance, and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient use of resources.
Job Responsibilities:
•
40% Direct Patient Care:
o
Establishes and implements a standardized Nutrition Care Process to identify and treat those patients requiring Medical Nutrition Therapy; direct patient care includes:
o
Monitors/evaluates patient tolerance to therapeutic diets when appropriate.
o
Develops and provides nutrition education/counseling to patients, patient family, and patient caretakers.
o
Incorporates current evidence-based research into practice.
•
40% Indirect Patient Care:
o
Establishes and implements a standardized Nutrition Care Process to identify and treat those patients requiring Medical Nutrition Therapy; indirect patient care includes:
o
Performs and documents nutrition assessments.
o
Maintains pertinent patient data necessary to recommend, prescribe, or modify therapeutic diets as needed to meet the nutritional needs of the patients.
o Writes/approves orders for therapeutic nutrition, dietary supplements, and nutritional supplements.
o Collaborate with other hospital services to plan and implement patient care as necessary in meeting the nutritional needs of patients (e.g. medical staff, nursing, pharmacy, social work services, etc.)
o Complete all required documentation, reports, and logs in a timely, professional, and thorough manner.
• 10% Regulatory and Safety:
o Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
o Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
o Adheres to facility confidentiality and patient’s rights policy as outlined in the facility’s HIPAA policies and procedures.
o Follows organization, facility, and department policies and procedures.
o Participate in the hospital Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement Program.
o Collaborates with System Clinical Nutrition team to approve nutrition care manual, patient menus and nutritional supplements and enteral nutrition products.
• 10% Professional Leadership & Development:
o Attends weekly RD meeting.
o Actively seeks out learning opportunities, seeks help or guidance, asks for and applies feedback, learns from mistakes, and tracks own progress and development.
o Leads change by positive example and gets the team on board for change initiatives and supports them during the process.
o Assists with orientation and training of dietetic interns and staff, as needed.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
• At least one (1) year experience as a registered dietitian.
Education
Required Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or a related Nutrition field.
•Master’s degree in dietetics required for those who graduated after January 2024. Degree must be from an accredited University or College approved by the Accreditation Council for Education and Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) or the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
Required Certifications & Licensure:
• BLS
• Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or registry eligible.
• Licensed Dietitian in the state of practice.
