Employment type: W-2 contract
Work Location: Onsite 5-days per week

Position Overview

Inabia Solutions & Consulting Inc. is seeking a Mechatronics Test Engineer to support a client developing next-generation robotics and automation systems. You will develop and execute verification and validation programs for robotic subsystems and complete systems. This hands-on role includes designing test methods and fixtures, commissioning test benches, selecting instrumentation, conducting functional and reliability testing, and turning measurement data into engineering findings that guide design decisions. Candidates with relevant experience in robotics, complex automation, automotive, or aerospace systems are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Develop functional specifications, design verification plans, test strategies, procedures, and acceptance criteria for complex hardware/software systems.
  • Translate engineering requirements into measurable tests, maintaining traceability between requirements, test results, and verification conclusions.
  • Design, commission, and operate test benches and fixtures for actuators, sensors, batteries, power systems, electronics, and robotic manipulation systems.
  • Perform characterization and functional testing of mechatronics components, subsystems, and integrated robotic systems.
  • Develop and execute hardware reliability programs using applicable methods such as Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS), Accelerated Life Testing (ALT), and reliability growth testing.
  • Select test equipment and instrumentation based on measurement needs, operating ranges, accuracy, and program development stage.
  • Collect, process, and analyze test data to determine performance metrics, identify failure modes, and assess compliance with specifications.
  • Investigate test failures with mechanical, electrical, software, and controls engineers; verify corrective actions through follow-up testing.
  • Create test reports documenting methods, results, deviations, and recommendations for design improvement.
  • Develop practical test approaches when requirements are incomplete or changing.
  • Coordinate equipment, suppliers, schedules, and test activities to support product development milestones.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong verification and validation experience with robotics or complex automation systems. Relevant automotive or aerospace experience is also acceptable.
  • Experience developing test methods, verification plans, and/or test fixtures.
  • Hands-on experience characterizing and functionally testing mechatronics hardware.
  • Experience developing hardware reliability tests using HALT, HASS, ALT, and/or reliability growth methods.
  • Experience verifying requirements for relevant hardware, including actuators, sensors, batteries, power systems, electronics, or robotic manipulation systems.
  • Experience setting up and operating test benches, instrumentation, and data collection equipment.
  • Ability to analyze measurement data and communicate findings through clear engineering reports.
  • Experience collaborating across mechanical, electrical, software, and controls disciplines.
  • Ability to work onsite in North Reading, MA.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
  • Experience supporting product development from concept through production.
  • Experience selecting, sourcing, and setting up third-party lab equipment.
  • Experience managing technical test projects and coordinating suppliers.
  • Programming or test automation experience using Python, C++, MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or similar tools.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
