Overview

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to perform advanced technical work across SQL Server database administration, production database operations, application development lifecycle support, data migration, database security, performance optimization, and Azure database administration. This is a remote contract role with a preference for candidates located in or near Harrisburg, PA, working standard business hours of 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM ET. The selected candidate will support mission-critical database environments and collaborate with technical and business teams across both on-premise and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced SQL Server database administration and production database operations.
  • Support the full application development lifecycle, including planning, design, development, implementation, data migration, QA, data cleanup, and data administration.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server software, including Service Pack installations.
  • Perform SQL Server health checks and provide database performance recommendations.
  • Support SQL database migrations and upgrades from legacy servers and prior SQL Server versions.
  • Perform data extraction, cleansing, transformation, loading, and validation.
  • Administer Azure SQL databases, including deployment, configuration, security, backup, and maintenance.
  • Integrate Azure SQL resources with other Azure services.
  • Develop and deploy database schemas across development, test, and production environments.
  • Perform logical and physical database modeling.
  • Develop and maintain database structures, tables, relationships, and normalization.
  • Support PSP Data Warehouse, Data Mart, and Power BI environments.
  • Coordinate database backup and restore activities.
  • Monitor database availability, security, health, and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.
  • Collaborate with developers, business stakeholders, vendors, and service providers.
  • Assist with software releases and database-related deployments.
  • Identify and track technical issues, risks, and action items.
  • Estimate work effort and schedule assigned activities.
  • Participate in ongoing process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide regular project and status updates.
  • Follow established database standards and best practices.
  • Work independently with limited supervision while contributing effectively to a team environment.
  • Complete all assigned activities within required timelines.

Key Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on SQL Server database administration experience (required).
  • 4+ years of production server database administration experience (required).
  • 3+ years of data analytics experience (required).
  • 1+ year of Azure database administration experience (required).
  • 1+ year of data warehouse experience (required).
  • Strong SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with database migrations and version upgrades.
  • Knowledge of backup and restore procedures, high availability configurations, and database security.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Business Systems Analysis and Design.
  • Microsoft SQL Server HA / Always On configuration experience.
  • Power BI Administration experience (highly desired).
  • Exposure to Data Warehouses and Data Marts.
  • Candidates located in or near Harrisburg, PA are strongly preferred.
